After
your fleece is booked into our system and weighed, the first stage
of our process is a thorough wash and rinsing.
Biodegradable detergents are used throughout in the purpose-made
Mini Mills' Washer >>
|
|
<<
After drying, the fleece is Picked or opened, to untangle
knots and matted clumps ahead of the more delicate processes.
|
|
If
necessary, coarse hair will be removed in the dehairer
prior to carding. >>
|
|
<<
The carder brushes fibre into a more orderly stream and produces
slivers of consistent linear density in preparation for spinning.
The carder is the final stage of the process for those customers
who require rovings for hand spinning and batts for felting.
|
|
For
customers requiring yarn, the slivers are further aligned and
drafted on the drawframe >>
Density and weight are set to meet customers' needs and these
records are kept for further use. Different fibres can also be
variegated at this stage. The ultimate yarn quality is dependant
on our expertise and the accuracy of the purpose built equipment
used in these preparatory stages.
|
|
<<
Yarn is spun on the 8 spindle spinner and plyed on the
4-spindle spinner.
Thickness, twist per inch and other customer requirements are
achieved at this stage. The yarn is further stabilized using a
steamer whilst winding onto skeins or cones as specified by customers.
|
|
The
use of specialist equipment combined with Meryl and Marion's expertise
produces consistent quality and reduces waste. Thus we can offer
a prompt and affordable service.
For those customers interested in felt or producing their own,
our felter is available for
hire. >>
